Liverpool Sounding and Turn of the Tide are two short films commissioned by Liverpool’s Public Relations Office in 1966. One telling the city’s story as a musical capital (sound familiar?) the other told the tale of its docklands and industry. A far more recent (and more successful) tale from the city is by Roisin Burns with Passing Tides\, a poem of a film focusing on musician Bill Ryder Jones.

Arriving at the store\, he finds that the locks to the security shutters are jammed closed with chewing gum\, so he hangs a sheet over them with a message written in shoe polish: “I ASSURE YOU; WE’RE OPEN.”\n\nThen things go downhill.

This new show follows a 2016 tour of Drunken Bakers\, showcasing 2008 Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey‘s notoriously harrowing film of Barney and Lee Healey’s long running Viz strip. \nBarney Farmer is a reformed journalist who writes Drunken Bakers and similar for Viz\, also regular bits for Private Eye\, mostly using a yellow Bic biro or bookmakers’ pen. He is no longer trading as the rap act Poundmaster Plus but retains all copyright. Name available for lease or hire. Must collect. \nBarney held two sell-out shows at Liverpool Small Cinema last year in Liverpool. This is a brand new show.
