SUMMARY:A Taste of Honey
DESCRIPTION:Tickets Here \nWe’re delighted to have two screenings at Bluecoat in 2019\, as part of their exhibition exploring the Art Schools of the North West (on until 10 March 2019). We’ve selected ‘Taste of Honey’ and ‘Little Malcolm and His Struggle Against the Eunuchs’\, two classic cult films to watch in the glorious surroundings of the Bluecoat performance room. \nFri 18 Jan A Taste of Honey (1961) 100 min. \n6.30pm introduction in gallery/ 7pm screening \nDirected by Tony Richardson and with a screenplay by Shelagh Delaney\, this fine example of British kitchen sink realism is set in Salford. It imagines a post-nuclear family where gay textile art student Geoffrey (Murray Melvin) and unmarried mother Jo (Rita Tushingham) set up home together\, albeit briefly. It’s a utopian moment not out of keeping with the spirit of art school. The film is accompanied by a short film by Roger Appleton\, Director of The City That Rocked the World\, about archetypal art school band\, Deaf School\, who emerged from Liverpool Art School in the 1970s. \nTickets £8/£6

SUMMARY:LAMB (15) AT GEORGE HENRY LEE'S
DESCRIPTION:October 21\nFilm Starts 3pm\nGeorge Henry Lee’s\nTickets £4/3 \nMichael Lamb (Liam Neeson) is an idealistic young Brother\, living in a brutal\, west Ireland reformatory. \nThe recent death of his father and growing anger at the mistreatment of a resident boy (Hugh O’Conor) prompts Lamb to take dramatic action; cash in his inheritance and flee with the boy to England. Depicting an unconventional relationship between a naïve young cleric and a troubled child\, the film is vivid and unsettling. Unlikely to have been made later -as scandals of clerical abuse became rife- it features Neeson in his first lead film role plus the remarkable debut of Hugh O’Conor (four years before his Oscar nomination for My Left Foot). \nThis is an adaptation of Bernard MacLaverty’s acclaimed novel\, directed by Colin Gregg. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT \n  \nThursday August 23rd\nFilm Start 7.30pm\nOUTPUT Gallery \nTickets £5/4 from here \nWho gets to tell the story of a city? An unusual trio of films aiming to do just that. Liverpool Sounding and Turn of the Tide are two short films commissioned by Liverpool’s Public Relations Office in 1966. One telling the city’s story as a musical capital (sound familiar?) the other told the tale of its docklands and industry. A far more recent (and more successful) tale from the city is by Roisin Burns with Passing Tides\, a poem of a film focusing on musician Bill Ryder Jones.
